Victoria, British Columbia (BC), Canada

Victoria is located on Vancouver Island on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada and is the capital of British Columbia.

There's a strong British influence in Victoria with it's tearooms, double decker buses, horse drawn TallyHo carriages and British sweet shops.

Another strong influence in Victoria is British Columbia's Native Indian history. Throughout the local parks you will find West Coast Indian totem poles.

Victoria's stonewalled inner harbour is home to pleasure craft, fishing boats, shipping vessels and ferries to the United States. Also along the inner harbour are the parliament buildings and the famous Empress Hotel.

Wharf, Belleville and Government are the busiest streets in Victoria although rush hour is nothing like rush hour in large cities.

Ferries take travellers from Vancouver Island to the mainland in Vancouver. There are also ferries from the inner harbour to Port Angeles, Washington.

Victoria International Airport is 22 km north of Victoria's city center.

Via Rail has weekday runs between Victoria and Courtenay in the northern part of Vancouver Island.

Victoria shopping is centered on Government Street. Within Victoria you will find specialty shops such as EA Morris Tobacconist and Roger's Chocolate Shop, Market Square, Trounce Alley, and antiques along Government and Fort Streets and Oak Bay Avenue. Cowichan sweaters and other Native Indian arts are readily available all around Victoria.
